For five long years, Clara had swallowed her pride and accepted a life in the shadows. Once the heart and soul of the Vance household, she had been systematically replaced by Evelyn—a woman whose charm was as razor-sharp as it was fake.
On a rainy Tuesday night, the tension inside the Vance estate finally boiled over.
Evelyn stood over Clara, her eyes flashing with cold rage. A crystal vase shattered across the polished marble floor, mirroring the fractured state of their family.
“You think you can just come back into his life and play the victim?” Evelyn spat, her voice echoing in the empty hall. “Look at you! You’re nothing to him now. Everything in this house belongs to me!”
Clara remained on her knees, not out of weakness, but out of sheer emotional exhaustion. She looked at the woman who had stolen her life, her position, and most painfully, her place in her husband Arthur’s heart.
“I didn’t come for your money, Evelyn,” Clara whispered, her voice trembling with tears. “I came because you promised to tell him the truth about what happened five years ago.”
“The truth?” Evelyn burst into a cruel laugh. “The truth is whatever I say it is. If Arthur finds out who really transferred those funds, who do you think he’ll believe? The crazy ex-wife… or his devoted current bride?”
Clara’s heart sank. Evelyn had framed her years ago, forcing Arthur to drive Clara away in shame. But what Evelyn didn’t know was that Clara hadn’t come back empty-handed tonight. Hidden beneath the sofa cushion was a faded leather envelope—containing the original bank receipts that could destroy Evelyn’s web of lies forever.
Just as Evelyn raised her hand to strike Clara, a heavy metallic click echoed from the front foyer. The heavy wooden front door began to swing open… Arthur was home early.
Evelyn’s face paled for a split second before instantly shifting into an expression of terror. In a terrifying split-second move, Evelyn threw herself backward onto the floor, deliberately cutting her arm on a piece of broken glass.
“Arthur! Help me!” Evelyn screamed out, pointing a trembling finger at Clara just as the lights flashed on.
