Two Dead, Six Wounded in Downtown L.A. After-Party Shooting

LOS ANGELES — Two people were fatally shot and six others wounded early Monday morning during an unauthorized after-party tied to the Hard Summer music festival, held in downtown Los Angeles.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, officers initially responded around 11:00 p.m. on Sunday night to shut down a warehouse party in the 1100 block of 14th Place, after spotting someone who appeared to be carrying a firearm. That individual was arrested on the spot.

After the crowd dispersed, officers cleared the location. However, at approximately 1:00 a.m. Monday, they received reports of shots fired and returned to find eight people had been shot. One man died at the scene, and a woman later died at the hospital. Six others remain hospitalized, including at least one in critical condition.

Victims & Circumstances

  • A father identified one of the victims as his 29‑year‑old son, described as a respectful father of three.
  • Victims range in age from their mid‑20s to early 60s. Two of the wounded are in critical condition.

Event Background

  • The party had been advertised via social media as an unofficial “after-party” for Hard Summer, a techno‑music festival taking place about nine miles away in Inglewood.
  • Illegal warehouse parties have become increasingly common in downtown L.A.—often dubbed “afters”—due to the area’s distance from residential zones.
  • Witnesses reported that after the police dispersed the party earlier in the night, many attendees returned. By morning, the street was littered with shell casings and evidence markers.

Police Response & Investigation

  • No suspect has been publicly identified beyond the individual arrested earlier for possible firearm possession. The motive remains unclear as the investigation continues.
  • Detectives remained at the scene well into Monday, marking over 50 spots used to collect ballistic evidence.

Community Impact

  • The violent escalation has raised renewed concern over unsanctioned gatherings in the downtown warehouse district.
  • Residents and security personnel described a predictable yet dangerous pattern: parties reassembling after initial policing, with loud music and crowded conditions late into the night.
