Prince Harry mocks Trump with brutal joke in late-night show appearance

Prince Harry and Donald Trump have never exactly shared warm feelings, and the Duke’s latest appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert is unlikely to thaw their already frosty relationship.

As Harry joined Colbert for a comedy sketch on Wednesday, he slipped in a pointed remark aimed squarely at the former president.

Harry’s Life in the U.S. and Trump’s Past Threats

After a brief stay in Canada following their royal departure, Harry and Meghan settled permanently in Montecito, California, purchasing what the Duke has called their “forever home.” Despite living in the U.S., Harry has said he has no intention of applying for American citizenship — a decision that may not surprise many, given Donald Trump’s earlier threats to deport him.

In 2023, The Heritage Foundation, a conservative think tank, sued the Department of Homeland Security to obtain Harry’s immigration records. At the time, certain visa applications required an applicant to disclose any past drug use — something that could have resulted in rejection.

Harry complicated matters by openly writing in Sparethat he had experimented with drugs including cocaine, marijuana, and magic mushrooms, even admitting he once lied about cocaine use as a teenager. He said his drug use stemmed from the emotional turmoil following Princess Diana’s death.

In September of last year, a judge ruled that Harry’s visa records would remain sealed. Still, Trump warned that the Duke could face deportation if he had been dishonest.

“We’ll have to see if they know something about the drugs, and if he lied they’ll have to take appropriate action,” Trump said in March 2024.

Trump Declares He “Wouldn’t Protect” Harry

Just weeks before that, Trump had also made it clear that he would not intervene on Harry’s behalf if he returned to the White House.

“I wouldn’t protect him. He betrayed the Queen. That’s unforgivable. He would be on his own if it was down to me,” he told the Express, adding that the Royal Family had been “too gracious” to Harry after “what he has done.”

Harry Fires Back on The Late Show

Until now, Harry has rarely commented directly on Trump. But during Wednesday night’s show, he took a sharper tone.

For the segment, Colbert and Harry performed a sketch where the Duke jokingly auditioned to star in a Hallmark-style movie titled Gingerbread Christmas Prince Saves Christmas in Nebraska. While acting out the bit, Harry remarked that the U.S. seemed “obsessed” with royalty.

Colbert pushed back, saying, “Hold on, I wouldn’t say we’re obsessed with royalty.”

Harry replied, “Really? I heard you elected a king,” earning a mixture of laughter and boos from the audience.

The line appeared to be a tongue-in-cheek reference to the “No Kings” movement — a criticism of what many describe as Trump’s “authoritarian-leaning” approach — and was unmistakably aimed at the former president.
