How Kate Middleton Is Showing Off Her Interior Design Expertise at New ‘Forever Home’

Kate Middleton has quietly been putting her creative touch to work as she and Prince William settle into their new family home. The couple recently moved with Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis into Forest Lodge in Windsor, a place they reportedly see as their long-term base. The transition came earlier than expected. Builders finished ahead of schedule, which allowed the family to move in while the children were enjoying their half-term break.

For Kate, the move is more than a change of address. She has always taken an active role in decorating their past homes, from Nottingham Cottage to Anmer Hall and their apartment at Kensington Palace. Forest Lodge is much larger than Adelaide Cottage, with eight bedrooms and far more space to reflect the princess’s preference for a contemporary yet classic aesthetic.

Kate’s eye for design

Her recent visit to Marina Mills, a small family-run business known for furnishing royal homes, suggests she may have been planning details for months. It would not be surprising if she walked away from that visit with fabric samples or design ideas for the new house. Reports also mention a grand antique dining table capable of seating 24 people. Since Forest Lodge is expected to remain their home even after William becomes king, such a piece will likely become part of many family gatherings in the years to come.

Kate’s artistic sensibility is well known. Her degree in art history shows in the way she curates interiors, something even Prince Harry remarked on in his memoir. He described the Kensington Palace apartment she once redesigned as “magnificent,” comparing it to a gallery for its tasteful mix of artwork, textures and soft colours. When the Obamas visited in 2016, photographs from the evening reflected just how polished and thoughtfully arranged the space was.

By contrast, Harry wrote that he and Meghan felt slightly out of place returning to their own modest, mismatched furniture afterwards, joking about Ikea lamps and bargain sofas.

Settling in with gratitude

After the move to Forest Lodge, William and Kate made sure to acknowledge the team who helped make it possible. According to reports, they hosted a private gathering at The York Club to thank the staff and crew who worked long hours to complete the home in time.

The new house is more than a residence. It marks a moment of stability for the Wales family and gives Kate another opportunity to shape a warm, personal environment for her children, using the taste and creativity she has quietly developed over the years.
