Prince Harry Exposes Kate Middleton’s Bru:tal Texts To Meghan Markle

Prince Harry’s memoir Spare opened a rare window into the deeply strained relationships inside the Royal Family. One of the moments that shocked readers most was the dispute between Kate Middleton and Meghan Markle just days before the Sussexes’ wedding in 2018. The incident had long been whispered about, but Harry finally shared the text messages behind the argument, revealing a very different story from what the tabloids reported.

According to Harry, the tension began when Kate texted Meghan to say that Princess Charlotte’s bridesmaid dress was “too big, too long, too baggy.” She added that Charlotte had cried when trying it on at home. The dresses had been made from predetermined measurements, something Meghan tried to explain as she reminded Kate that a tailor had been waiting at Kensington Palace since early morning. She encouraged her to bring Charlotte in like the other mothers were doing.

Kate, however, is said to have insisted the dresses be completely remade, pointing to her own designer’s opinion. Meghan, overwhelmed by the ongoing chaos with her father at the time, asked whether Kate understood what she was dealing with. Kate acknowledged the situation but repeated that the wedding was only four days away. The conversation ended abruptly with a short “Fine,” but the damage was done. Harry wrote that he later found Meghan on the floor in tears.

A story rewritten by the press

Months after the wedding, British tabloids ran a very different version of events, claiming Meghan had made Kate cry. The narrative stuck, causing immense frustration for the Sussexes. When the two couples finally met privately to discuss it, Harry says Kate admitted that she had actually been the one who caused Meghan to cry. Despite that, the inaccurate story was never corrected.

Harry recalled the atmosphere as tense and uncomfortable, describing Kate as “flustered” and William as evasive. The meeting grew heavier when William eventually confessed he might have mentioned the argument to King Charles and Queen Camilla during a dinner. Meghan froze upon hearing this, and Harry remembered silence falling over the room as the implications sank in.

Meghan’s public response

Years later, Meghan addressed the issue in her interview with Oprah Winfrey. She confirmed Kate had apologized and that she had forgiven her. What hurt her most was not the argument itself but being blamed publicly for something that she says happened to her, not because of her. She also shared that people who had attended the wedding told the Sussexes’ communications team the original tabloid story was false.

The argument may have lasted only a few days, but its fallout became one of the defining symbols of the relationship breakdown between the two couples. And for many, Harry’s recounting simply highlighted how easily a private misunderstanding can turn into a public storm inside the Royal Family.
