5 Killed in Head-On Crash on Washington State Highway, No Survivors
DOUGLAS COUNTY, Wash. — Five people were killed Sunday night in a devastating head-on collision on a highway in Washington state, according to authorities.
The crash occurred on U.S. Route 2 in Douglas County, north of East Wenatchee. Washington State Patrol said two passenger vehicles collided head-on, killing everyone involved.
Five People Killed at the Scene
According to investigators, a Nissan Maxima carrying four people was traveling westbound when it crossed the center line and entered the eastbound lane.
The Nissan then collided head-on with a Chevrolet Sonic driven by a 77-year-old woman.
All four occupants of the Nissan and the driver of the Chevrolet were pronounced dead at the scene. No one survived the collision.
Authorities have not released all details surrounding the victims as the investigation continues.
Investigators Examine Drugs or Alcohol as a Factor
Preliminary information from the Washington State Patrol indicated that improper lane usage contributed to the collision.
Investigators also reported that drugs or alcohol were involved, although authorities had not publicly detailed which substance was involved or precisely how it contributed to the crash.
