Little girl who looked 8 months’ pregnant because of deadly disease is saved thanks to dad’s kidney donation

A young girl, who appeared to be eight months pregnant due to a severe illness, has been saved through her father’s kidney donation.

Every parent’s foremost desire is for their children to enjoy good health and a joyful upbringing.

When Karen Rodas and Paul Bybkin welcomed their son Nathaniel, their joy was tragically short-lived, as he lived only 36 hours. He was diagnosed with Polycystic Kidney Disease (PKD), a condition that leads to the development of cysts in the kidneys and often results in kidney failure, which ultimately claimed Nathaniel’s life.

In 2013, the couple was blessed with a daughter named Maddy. However, their worst fears were realized when Maddy was born with the same condition that had afflicted her brother, leaving her parents devastated. Maddy’s abdomen was so distended that it resembled that of a woman in her ninth month of pregnancy.

Fortunately, this time, circumstances improved, and Maddy was granted a second chance at life thanks to her father’s decision to donate one of his kidneys. Prior to the life-saving operation, Maddy spent a significant amount of time in hospitals and often slept for up to 18 hours a day.

The medical team informed the family that Maddy’s prospects of leading a normal life hinged on finding a compatible donor.

By a stroke of luck, her father was found to be a match.

“My nerves were frayed as both Paul and Maddy prepared for surgery, as they are two of my most cherished individuals,” Karen recounted, as reported by The Mirror.

The operation was entirely successful, and both Maddy and Paul made excellent recoveries.

“Thanks to her father’s kidney, our little girl has been saved,” Karen expressed. “She now possesses boundless energy. Her once swollen abdomen has reduced to a slight roundness, and she is a joyful and healthy two-year-old.”

Paul, for his part, believes he merely acted as any devoted father would for his child.
The journey has been tumultuous, yet any father would have made the same choice I did by donating my kidney to Maddy. It is an inherent aspect of parenthood, he remarked, as reported by The Mirror.

“Currently, we are experiencing a joyful phase and can witness Maddy flourish into a happy and healthy young girl.”

While it is likely that she will require another transplant in approximately 25 years, she has many years ahead to embrace life and enjoy it to the fullest.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to this wonderful family and wish them all the joy that life has to offer. Please share this inspiring story with your loved ones to extend your wishes for their well-being as well.

Wishing you love and peace.
