BRONX, New York — August 29, 2026 — Three people were injured after a boat caught fire near City Island in the Bronx on Saturday afternoon, sending a towering column of black smoke over the waterfront and triggering a large emergency response.

The fire involved a vessel approximately 30 feet long near Bridge Street on City Island. Emergency crews were called to the scene shortly before 2 p.m. as flames engulfed the boat and thick black smoke became visible from around the surrounding waterfront.

Three People Injured

According to FDNY information reported by local news outlets, three people suffered minor injuries and were transported to hospitals for treatment.

No deaths were reported.

The extent and nature of each person’s injuries were not immediately detailed, but authorities characterized them as minor.

Large FDNY Response

The burning vessel generated a significant emergency response as firefighters and paramedics converged on the City Island waterfront.

CBS New York reported that the incident occurred at approximately 1:40 p.m., with video from the scene showing the vessel engulfed in flames and producing a dense plume of black smoke.

More than six dozen firefighters and paramedics responded to the emergency, according to reports.

Firefighters worked for roughly an hour before bringing the blaze under control.

Dramatic Smoke Seen Over City Island

Images and video captured during the incident showed intense orange flames consuming part of the vessel while heavy black smoke rose high above the marina.

Other boats could be seen docked nearby as emergency crews worked to contain the fire.

The dramatic smoke plume attracted attention around City Island, a Bronx neighborhood known for its waterfront, marinas, boating activity and seafood restaurants.

Despite the intensity of the fire, there were no reported fatalities.
